Giro d'Italia 2024: Lake to Livigno

May 15th - May 22nd 2024

​Join in on the history and drama of the 107-year old Giro d’Italia. Bike It! will warm up on Lake Como’s classic climbs before following the Tour of Italy as it enters the high Alps stages near Livigno. Watch one of the most prestigious cycling races and ride sections of Stage 15 and 16. Base three nights in Livigno, a mile high ski town, living the atmosphere while the pros enjoy a rest day. Our scenic routes wind through the highest of the Italian Alps, offering breathtaking views of snow-capped peaks, lush valleys, and picturesque villages. As you pedal your way up the challenging inclines and hairpin turns, you'll experience the rush of adrenaline and sense of accomplishment that comes with conquering some of the most iconic climbs in cycling history. Over the course of the tour we will check off the Ghisallo climb, Muro di Sormano, Stelvio Pass, Bernina Pass and Maloja Pass. 
This Bike It! Tour is a great way to kick off your season with some high climbs and lots of camaraderie. Enjoy the history of the "Corsa Rosa" and the natural wonders of the region as you ride with Luca.

Wednesday, May 15th:
Airport pickup (in groups)
Arrive in Bellagio
Bike rental setup
Welcome dinner in Bellagio, followed by program presentation

Thursday, May 16th:
Breakfast
Stage 1: Ghisallo and Muro (or Colma) di Sormano (54km, 1300m elevation gain)
-Take on the most historic local climbs, the Ghisallo, arriving at the Museum of Cyclists and continue to the famous Muro di Sormano (with an option to ride around/avoid the wall to reach the peak on a gentle slope).
-Guided tour of the Museo del Ghisallo (cycling museum), the home of the biggest collection of Giro D’Italia jerseys, and Madonna del Ghisallo cycling chapel
Dinner with guides at Bellagio restaurant

Friday, May 17th:
Breakfast
Stage 2: Lake Lugano Border Crossing (85 km, 1000m elevation gain)
-Bring your passport as we climb up into Val Intelvi on the Italian side and cross into Switzerland on the descent. We enjoy views from up high of both Lake Como and Lake Lugano, and pass through beautiful Lugano city. Enjoy beautiful cycle paths as we return back to Italy and head home to Bellagio via Menaggio.

Saturday, May 18th: 
Breakfast
Stage 3: Valtellina Cycle Path to Cantina Negri Wine Tasting (78km, 500m elevation gain)
-Ride north, departing Lake Como and head east on the tranquil Valtellina Cycle Path. Spend the day amongst the Nebbiolo wine hills, Apple orchards, and calm of this cyclists entry to the Alps. 
-Afternoon: Close off the day with a tasting of the local Valtellina wines, and van transport to Livigno.

Sunday, May 19th:

Rest day
Watch Stage 15 arrive in Livigno!
Optional ride to Bormio and Laghi di Cancano. 
Enjoy the duty free shopping of Livigno or take a ski lift up to 3000 meters for gorgeous views and hiking.

Monday, May 20th: 
Breakfast
Stage 4: Livigno-Passo dello Stelvio from Prato (106km, 2300m elevation gain)
-The Stelvio is the highest paved road in the Eastern Alps at 2757m. Most people ride up from Bormio. Join us for the road less traveled as we ride up the back side of the Stelvio from Switzerland to Prato Allo Stelvio and up the high mountain pass. Descend on the classic 48 hairpin turns into beautiful Bormio for the afternoon.
-Return to Livigno by van transfer from Bormio

Tuesday, May 21st:  
Breakfast
Stage 5: Passo Forcola, Bernina Pass, Maloja Pass to the Lake (146km, 2300m elevation gain)
-We’re taking the hilly route from Livigno back to Como Lake. Close out the tour with an epic climb to the top of Bernina, then it’s almost all downhill from there.  Descend into the luxury of San Moritz. Catch views of the ski slopes, which may still be open. Re-enter Italy and return to our Lake on a beautiful bike path through Valchiavenna
Farewell dinner and sleep at Bellagio hotel
